SUMMER 2018 WORKSHOPS – AGES 8-14
Art a la Carte Studios &The Creative Center at Markay Gallery in Marietta Square have teamed up to bring your young artists the best of our Advanced Workshops for Summer 2018! Camps will be hosted at The Creative Center at Markay Gallery, where students will be surrounded by inspiring Art and Culture for an amazing adventure in Art Exploration! Students will be inspired by sidewalk classes and plein air sessions, using the atmosphere of the historic buildings and character of Marietta City to unleash their creativity. These workshops are perfect for intermediate to advanced students that are rising 4th – 8th grades.
The Fab Lab
Explore the fabric of our lives! Bring your maker skills into focus as we discover the textiles around us. We’ll take a closer look at the properties of fabric that keep us warm, cool, dry and looking good. Discover the bugs, plants and animals that give us the raw materials as well as the engineering behind the weaving, knitting and felting that create fabrics. You will be amazed at the surprising ways we use textiles–from fashion to nanotechnology–in our homes and businesses.
Anime & Cartooning
In this technical skill building drawing workshop, students will learn how to use familiar geometric forms to create characters in the popular Japanese anime style as well as other styles used to create popular graphic novels and anime series. They will gain an understanding of proportions as it relates to figurative drawing. This fun filled class will also teach the principles of prospective drawing and background design, may place their characters into realistic settings.
Considering a career in the Digital Arts world? Graphic Design & Digital Arts students will experience the real life applications of this growing industry. They will learn about package design, branding as well as about the elements and principles of design. Students will then create digital portfolios for clients, just as Graphic Artists would in the professional world. Students will be introduced to computer graphics as well as create projects by hand with a variety of mediums.
In this creative summer workshop, students will have a blast painting with acrylics, watercolors & more! They will create paintings on canvas as well as work with other specialty surfaces. Students will learn about color theory and different painting techniques. Also covered in this workshop will be best studio practices, including how to choose and protect supplies. Your young artists will fill your home with unique and beautiful artwork by the end of this week.
